What to Do If You Have Been Arrested in Massachusetts

If you have been arrested, it is important that you take the following steps. First and foremost, remain calm and do not resist the arrest. Doing so could lead to additional charges or make whatever charges you might face more severe.

As soon as possible after your arrest, request an attorney. This is your right, and doing so can make all the difference. Having a Worcester lawyer on your side as you navigate the criminal process can be invaluable. An attorney can counsel you in key moments and negotiate or advocate on your behalf inside and outside of court.

Depending on the charges, a bail commissioner might set bail for you. If you can post it, arrange for payment and follow any conditions for your release. Should you be unable to post bail, a judge may set a different bail amount during your arraignment. If this amount is still too much, a lawyer can help you set up a bail review with a superior court.

Throughout the entire process, remember that anything you say can be used against you in court. This applies when speaking with police, other officials, and the prosecution. It also applies when speaking with family members and friends.

Lastly, do not despair. Remember that you are innocent until proven guilty, and there are likely numerous options for your defense. Should you choose my office, I will waste no time going to work for you. From investigating the circumstances of your arrest to gathering evidence and witnesses, you can trust I will do everything in my power to better your case.
